I'm 17 right now.
This is probably the most difficult period in every young person's life. You have matured into adulthood, but your parents probably have not adjusted to the change. The dillema for you is whether to strike out now and gain your freedom and full maturity, or face the slings and arrows of their displeasure as you exert your rights to adulthood. The other question is money. I am a landlord. I do not rent to anyone under 25 years of age unless the parents are on the lease. The parents should have to have an income equal to three times their rent plus your rent (unless they own a home). When you go to college, student housing will be available to you. Best wishes.
Well if your going to college, now is not the time to buy a house, you probually wont get a loan with out a full time job!
I say rent with a room mate

Here is what I mean. When people file for bankruptcy, then all the many companies they owe money to will not be paid for the goods and services they sold the customer. If enough people file for bankruptcy, wouldn't that eventually affect the company's bottom line to the point where they have to lay people off?
Bankruptcies primarily directly affect banks, medical professions, and only to a minor extent other businesses.

Most businesses do not extend credit but a bank offers credit through that business.

The current crisis was caused by panic or fear which caused banks to stop lending, consumers to reduce spending, and businesses and investors to reduce investments. In fact prior to the 20th century, all recessions or depressions were referred to as "Panics" triggered by over speculation.

No it is the lack of purchases and government mandates that is restricting companies.
If no one buys the product then there is no need to make any more.
Government keeps mandating more costs for hiring so why bother The New Health plan again will cause layoffs since companies cannot afford to pay the insurance bill.

So apparently this guy went into my sister's work (she works in fast food) and for some reason they were talking and he offered her a job. She is apparently supposed to be doing secretary stuff, plus making business cards and flyers and handling budgets. She has absolutely no background in this - she is going to community college right now. I think she took a class in high school for computers and I guess he said that was enough?

And basically today she said he hired her - no test, no background check, didn't need a resume, nothing. And she is getting paid $20/hr. plus $600 per month for gas. And apparently she gets part of the company's overall profits. WTF?

It is some solar energy company located in Grass Valley, Ca.

To me, this sounds like the most ridiculous thing thing ever. But no one else seems to think it is weird. Am I going crazy? It seems like this guy is obviously up to something.
Yeah, this sounds fishy. Even if he is attracted to your sister he still should have completed a basic backround check so he knows who's working for him. This is a scam or the guy is a little sleazy,it's that simple.

P.S you are NOT going crazy….lol.
Why don't you just ask her for the name of the company and then look it up on the net? If it's even half-way reputable, it should have a web site - right? You could also try looking it up on the Better Business Bureau website (BBB).

One other thing, is your sister under age 18? If she is, I hope that the business (scam or not) is following child labor laws…
Hello there,

I agree with you. It does not sound right to me. That is not the way businesses are run. Your sister should be cautious. If you know the name of the business, you could start checking it out by searching for the business name at the Secretary of State's Office. That will tell you if the business actually exists.

Later,
Sound like a scam to me, especially offering 600$ for gas money.

Have you tried to contact this so called 'company'? Or make an anonymous visit to the address? Check out their website?
Maybe he thinks she's hot and has money to burn or maybe you are just underestimating your sister.

Canadian five dollar bill, it doesnt have that shiny strip on the front and the big five doesnt have those little bumps for blind ppl to feel.

should we take it to the bank? or will they suspect us and we'd get arrested?
Look for the tiny print on the back at the bottom center. If it says "Printed in 2004", it's probably OK. The first issue of those notes didn't have the holographic strip that the current ones do. It's probably good, but you can take it to a bank to be sure.

Is this a good time to invest in ETFs, stocks, etc? When will the economy be in great shape? Which is better, invest in stock market or just save money? Opinion? Etc?
Depends on what you call "normal". The economy will never be what it once was, not at least for Americans. We are going down the path of a second rate socialist country. The government has already taken over GM, Chrysler and AIG. It is about to take over the health care industry. Once it passes cap & trade next year it will begin taking over the energy business. The unions, lawyers and far left will run this country into the ground as the Bolsheviks did in Russia back in 1917. You can plainly see where that led that country. You can plainly see where Mao led China decades after. Only in the past several years has China embraced capitalism and now they are the fastest growing economy on the planet and the largest holder of our debt. We are in trouble, big trouble. The "normal" you once knew may never return again. We have the ability to turn this around, but so many are so enthralled by the Messiah that they'll do whatever he says, no matter how dangerous that path. That all being said, buy gold. Rather than bullion, I'm buying gold mining stocks. My favorites are Goldcorp (GG) and Kinross Gold (KGC). And one last thing, learn to speak Chinese, they will soon own us many times over.
By THIS Time next Year, Our Economy will be at just about the NEW "Normal" that we can expect from THEN on… Since a lot of things STILL have to Stabilize, Settle-Out, & Come to Light between now & then, it's REALLY difficult to know or recognize What & WHEN the Economy will be "in great shape" ! SO; all things considered, -your BEST BET- would be to put your $$$ in the Highest Rated 2 year CD you can FIND, & let your money grow in THAT, for now… Placing it anywhere ELSE- is still a Gamble… Good luck. ;)
I think it is a good time to invest in real estate or REIT's because the prices are low and people tend to rent more during poor economies . Remember : buy into fear , sell into greed .
Yeah, what David said! The only thing I have to say is that it might be wise to learn Spanish. It is easier than Chinese.

….a Bachelors degree wouldn't have such a hard time finding employment. Even fast food chains aren't hiring??? What gives?
You're right. There are plenty of people of all ages with all types of degrees and different levels of work experience who do not have jobs. I have a Master's degree in the sciences and I'm not even working in my field. Feel free to check out my job blog that has advice on how to find a retail job and other advice on interviews, cover letters, resumes, etc.

I wish you the best of luck. Hope it helps!

I have a few friends.
One has a Bachlors in Art, one in Music, and one in Photography.
None of them have found jobs in decades.
Depends what you take.

and will this this trend continue over the next 10 years.
Many women are leaving big companies to instead start their own business. Firstly because corporate management is still more of a fraternity where women need to work twice as hard as men to achieve the same level or pay, starting their own business frees them from such discrimination. Secondly with their own business, the hours and place of business become more flexible so it's much easier for them to take care of their kids. The internet has certainly helped anyone who wants to start their own business so this trend could continue until the day when women are truly treated as equal.
Many women (as they get older) want a family. Management demands keep you away from your family several weeks and months of the year. The travel and long hours can drain a parent - and the fact is that a child needs his or her mother especially the first years of their life.
They can't handle the pressure.

I went on a interview yesterday , its just 2 days a week but I am out of work and cant take staying home, i figure maybe I can get 2 part time jobs. I was one of 3 people the manager was interviewing. I met the owner already. she said she liked me but had 2 others she was interviewing yesterday. I was the 1st interview of the morning. I will know today but since she said she liked me do you think I may have a better shot? its also only 11.00 an hour which the ad said 11-12 per hour and I have tons of experience. If she calls today would it be Ok to ask for the 12.00 an hour or just leave it alone? I do need the money
They often say they like you to avoid confrontation. that doesn't mean they don't like you. when they say they have more people to interview, that often means you didn't get the job. when they like someone, they often hire immediately, before you leave the building. that's not saying you won't get the job. negotiate for more money later, after you've proved yourself. keep looking until someone tells you when to show up.
From experience - what the owners or managers say in regards to liking you or not does matter, but it doesn't determine if you get the job. There's no way of knowing what their final thoughts are going to be. I think you need to determine how badly do you need this job - if you really need a job, don't argue about the salary. If you have a backup plan (which it doesn't sound like), negotiate to 11.50 or about there.
Home working is always a bit tough because there are so many criminals who are out to scam you. I have been working from home recently; I discovered some superb guidance on the website in the box below which showed me the greatest method to go about it.

You are an independent seller of health isurance?

Well, the positive is that one of the provisions being discussed would make it mandatory to buy a minimal form of health insurance.

The negative is you might have to compete against a public option plan, however the CBO projects that under the current bill only about 3.6 million people would sign up for it. Probably less once Republicans are done undermining the public option aspect of the bill.

So, on the positive you'll get a lot more people who were previously uninsured who will then have to buy health insurance or face a penalty. They will most likely opt for the cheapest plans. On the negative, the public option is a wild card.
