EBay gets a cut of each transaction. That is how eBay makes money.
Well, I make money by selling things for more than I paid for them, or by selling things I own that have no real value to me any more.

Does that answer your question, or was there more you wanted to know?

i had an interview on tuesday. and i was wondering how long im suppose to wait before calling them. and what should i ask them about the job
You should wait 3-4 days before calling. When you call, just state your name, tell them that you had a recent interview, and ask if they've made a decision or not regarding who to employ. Doing so will show your potential boss that you're interested in the job and motivated.
CALL THEM WHENEVER YOU WNAT, AT LEAST GIVE THEM A DAY OR 2/ JUST TELL THEM YOUR ANME, ASK IF THEY FILLED THE POSITION YET, GIVE THEM YOUR NUMBER AGAIN TO CALL BACK IF ANYTHING COMES UP, ADN THANK THEM
If they want to offer you the job they will call YOU.

How much can a Lawyer make a year?

I do not know all the type of lawyers so if you could have it like this

(type of lawyer)- 180,000
Veronica is spot on here.

Also keep in mind that many lawyers are unemployed right now. There's a bit of a glut in the lawyer market, and many attorneys are not currently practicing law.

However, if you want to make 180k kind of money, you will probably need to go to a top school and all that this entails.

Next, learn tax law or intellectual property law. Large corporations really need these kinds of legal services and are willing to pay top dollar to anyone willing to learn such a tedious.and boring subject.

Then hopefully with this really mundane but in demand specialization and top notch credentials you just might earn the right work your *** off at a big law firm.

You will eventually have to make partner for this kind of salary. This will take a lot of years of hard work. In order to work that hard, you will have to sacrifice any kind of free time, enjoyment, and meaningful relationships with other human beings.

Are you certain you need that much money? Many people enjoy their lives quite well on the 40 - 90k salary range after partying through school and finding some nice little organization with a busy but reasonable work load.
it depends on a LOT of things like:
- where you live
- how big a law office you work in (private vs. corporation)
- if you're self-employed or part of a firm
- if you're a partner or just associate
- how experienced you are
- what type of law you work in
basically some lawyers make millions, some make a lot lower. it costs money to start up a business. i would say an average starting salary would be anywhere from 40,000-90,000 but that's not in all states
That's the salary of a second or third year associate at a top 250 law firm in the United States. But those lawyers are recruited from the top 10 percent from the top 14 law schools in the country. There are over 200 law schools in America and around 40,000 law graduates each spring. There are nowhere near the amount of jobs or work to sustain them all.

Realistically, most attorney jobs start around $35-40k, and you can expect a hiring manager to receive about 200-300 resumes for a single position. Many law graduates are also saddle with student loan payments of $300-1,000 per month for the next 30 years after graduation.

There are ads on Craigslist in New York that are offering attorney $8 an hour to start. These are serious ads because the poster must pay $25 to list.

Law is one of the most overrated and overromanticized professions. There are plenty of other ways to make good money without all the stress and debt.
A corporate attorney or litigation specialist COULD make 500 million dollars. But that is not typical.
It mainly depends on how good you are

My parents were told by their landlord Tuesday evening that they had to be out by this coming up Monday. They have been faithful about paying the rent and the landlord has no just cause. He hasnt provided any written notice. My question is… Do they have to move? I was under the impression that one has to be provided a 30 day written notice. Can anyone help me?
Your right. Unless your parents have done something againist the lease they are entitled to 30 days written notice
Really depends what is in the lease your parents signed. Normally, landlord gives 30 days. If your parent or you did something that violates the lease agreement, eviction could be immediate.

Look up your state's rental rights to know what recourse you have.

I recently read an article about people who shelter US taxes on art sales by doing transactions using European holding companies. Does anybody know how this works? I've heard of sheltering royalties in Holland, like the Rolling Stones or U2, but how does that work for fine art?
The purchase of art is not taxable in the US.
There is capital gains tax on the SALE, no matter where the artwork is located in the world.
If a holding company buy and sells art and is a foreign corporation, there is no US tax.
However, a US citizen's ownership of a foreign company must be declared to the Dept of Tresury and is subject to IRS regulations. If the US citizen receives income from that company, it will be taxed, as US Citizens are taxed on worldwide income.
Note that the Rolling Stones and U2 are NOT US citizens.

I'm a citizen of 2 countries, USA and Bulgaria. As far as I know, I have to file US taxes even if I don't work in the US.
My estimated income for 2009 in Bulgaria should be around $6,000 per year. This year I spend more than 10 months in Europe.
- Should I file US taxes?
- Should I pay any $$$ to IRS?
- How can I pay taxes to IRS from Bulgaria? Can I use my debit or credit cards and pay online? Or, should I go to US Embassy with form 1040 and personal check?

-If somebody knows a lot about this question, could you please explain me what form should I fill out from IRS site and how? I'll get $0.00 dollars of the US income.

Only serious answers, please.
Thank you.
If you are a U.S. citizen, then you report all of your income, from anywhere in the world to the IRS, and must pay the same tax to the U.S. as you would be required to pay if you were in the U.S. and the income was from the U.S., except that the amount of tax might be reduced by certain credits related to taxes paid to other countries.

However, if your total income for the year is only $6000 and it is not from self-employment, premature IRA distributions, or certain other unusually things, then the U.S. tax will probably be zero anyway. You may still be required to file, but if the U.S. tax is zero, then you do not have to pay.

If you do have to pay, then you can send your check, drawn on a U.S. bank and payable in U.S. dollars to the IRS by mail from almost anywhere in the world. You do not have to go to the embassy and you should not pay online with a debit or credit card. (There is a large convenience fee if you pay with a debit or credit card.) You just need to go to the post office.

Form 1040 is definitely an option. Form 1040A or Form 1040EZ may or may not also be options, and may take less time to complete.
If you are an adult and your worldwide income is less than $9350, you don't have to file unless the income is from self-employment.

Sam is exactly 35 years old. At the end of this year, Sam will begin
making regular deposits into a tax-sheltered account at a Bank. Sam plans to make annual payments until he retires on his birthday at age 55 (the last deposit occurs on Sam’s birthday). The bank anticipates that the account will earn 6% APR compounded semi-annually until Sam retires at age 55. At retirement, Sam will begin withdrawing a fixed amount of $50,000 semi-annually
(the first withdrawal will be six months after retirement). Sam is in excellent physical condition and for financial planning purposes wishes to ensure that he can withdraw funds to age 90. Assume that Sam’s money will also earn 6% APR compounded semi-annually after retirement.
Rych,

You're right. I misread the original information

Three step approach still needed. The order changes a bit.

1. Find out how much Sam will need at age 55 to guarantee a semi-annual payment of $50k for 35 years.

2. Calculate the effective annualized rate of 6% compounded semi-annually

3. Find out the monthly amount Sam must fund the account beginning now, to have the amount calculated in step 1 by his 55th birthday.

The answers are:

1. Compute the Present Value (PV) of a semi-annual payment of $50,000 for 35 years using a discount rate of 3.00% per period. I used Excel (but any financial calculator will give you the same answer) entering $50,000 as the Payment, 3.00% as the Rate, and 70 as the Number of Periods. The answer came back as $1,456,171.07.

2. 1.03 X 1.03 = 1.0609, so the annualized earning rate is 6.09%

3. Now calculate the annual payment needed to accumulate $1,456,171.07. in 20 years. Again I used Excel using the PMT (Payment) function - setting $1,456,171.07. as the Future Value, 20 as the number of Periods and 6.09% as the rate. That answer came back as $39,203.95.

So the answer is $39,203.95 per year

I am a bank teller now. I only make 9.15 an hour. My background is strictly customer service. There has got to be a way to make better money? I can't fit a second job in because I am working on school while I am not at my full time job.
One way to improve your net worth is to increase your income so you can stash away more money in long-term investments.
I use points2shop to get stuff off Amazon.com.
You earn points on the site from doing offers, games, and all that crap like those other sites except you can actually communicate with other members on how to do offers and if they work or not. And if you're not a fan of Amazon, the site will convert your points to cash. Anyway here's the link to the site. Copy/paste it I guess.
