psychology, neurology, and philosophy. 2 out of 3 isn't bad. By the way i'm a junior in high school looking to plan a major in college and set some career goals, if that helps any.
Hey
Focus on school; you don’t want to stress yourself out because if you do you won’t do as well on certain assignments and if you fail a course because the stress you’ll have to retake and then you are wasting more money than is earned \Just focus on school now and then if you want to pick a JOBS after you’ve gotten your education, then it is fine and you won’t be so stressed out GOOD LUCK.

I disagree with the other posters. I did a degree in an Arts subject at a top University and am now doing a doctorate in that subject and am totally stumped for what job to do- plus, I have absolutely no money. It is really a good idea to work out career plans earlier than later- you can always change your mind.

I'm 24 years old, and I have over 5 years experience working in the health care administration field ether in a private medical practice as a front desk coordinator or a large medical company as a medical
records specialist.

I decided to go back to school over a year ago to get Board Certified in what I do.
So now I'm Certified By the (AAMA) American Association Of Medical Assistants Which is the National Gold Standard for medical assistants.

Were I leave I noticed the average Medical assistant with minimum experience makes between 13 to 14 an hour the more experience the more money, and it also depends on were you are employed. Hospitals general pay the most.

Since I do have about 6 years of experience in the field alone as well as my Certification I feel Im worth more than the minimum I feel I should make no less the 15 hourly.
My question is although I just received my certificate, will employers take my experience into consideration and pay me more than the minimum?

FYI although the economy is bad the health care filed is booming I have been on many interviews and I know something will open up soon:-)
One of my good friends just graduated from the ECPI MA program with that same degree… You will probably be lucky to make 12 dollars an hour honestly… My friend is thinking about just doing phlebotomy at a hospital instead because you make more at about 14 dollars an hour, with experience. Some sites even say you will make as low as 8.50 per hour, do a google search. You may find that you will make more if you work at a specialist doctor's office. Also, just FYI, most hospital employers, if you are considering hospitals, won't count the previous jobs you listed as experience in that field.

Good Luck.
That's good to hear. I live in Athens, GA. Ironic…lol. Anyways, good luck and thanks for the best answer. Report Abuse
For a MA, the certificate or not does not make a huge pay grade difference. What you get will depend on your skills and the place you are being employed at (sorry can't really be more specific) as this is still considered a relatively bottom of the pyramid position. A private doc may pay you a bit more for experience if his billing allows it. Larger groups usually do not negotiate much.

Why do banks do this…?

I've been giving this some serious thought and I'm not sure I understand.

I get a check.
I go to the bank and cash it.
They give me money for it.

The thing is, if there's a 7 day turnaround for it and it comes back bad, and I have to return the money they gave me, why don't they just take the check, wait the 7 days, then when it goes through, I can come get my money (or if it doesn't then I won't).
Wouldn't that, even if it is more of a hassle, be easier than waiting 7 days then getting told 'nuh-uh, you need to get us back that money we gave you'?
The bank assumes you would like access to the money now. The first thing they do is verify that you have enough money in your account to cover the balance of the check..if not, they will make you wait. Also, it no longer takes 7 days, rather closer to 2 to 3 days for a check to clear.
A bank will not find out if a check will clear until after you have cashed it or deposited it.They prefer to take your money and take the risk it is a bad check because they still have the use of the money and if it bounces, they deduct it from your account so they win either way and they can use it right away.

My husband received a letter today from Financial Debt Recovery claiming that he owes $6200

We took out a consolidation loan a year or two ago and paid off all bad debts. I also work for a bank and was able to obtain our credit reports. According to the bank we both have clean slates. I sent a request through to TransUnion Canada for my husband's full credit report and there are a couple items on there from years ago that were written off - but don't add up to anywhere near 6000.
This law firm and Financial Debt Recovery are legitimate businesses. What's going on here?
Did you get a written settlement agreement when you originally paid off the bad debts? Collection agencies are notorious for agreeing to settlements over the phone then denying that any settlement was made once they get your "settlement" money. They usually resell the debt to another collection agency, which inflates the amount due and starts the whole collection process all over again.

Debt collection laws in Canada are handled by provincial laws, rather than one national standard law as we have here in the USA. Send them a letter via Certified Mail Return Receipt (NOT regular mail) stating:

I am requesting written validation of this alleged debt, which includes:
- a copy of the original signed contract with my signature
- a fully itemized statement showing how the amount you are asking was calculated.
""written off - but don't add up to anywhere near 6000""

I'm guessing it has been sold to a collection agency, The way they work is, the original debt defaulted on was for say $2,000, lets say after assessing interest and late payments, 2500 was charged off by the OC,

After several years have gone by, the zombie debt is bought by a junk debt collector and magically that original 2500 has nearly tripled to 6200, of course the CA only paid 50-bucks for it,

I'm not sure what the laws are in Canada regarding dealing with them,

Good luck,
They sent a bill for 6200 - and they must 1) Prove the claim that you didn't pay off your loan with them. Meanwhile look for your check stubs or whatever way you did pay them, and write out each and every payment by date/amount. When you're sure that you've recovered all the paperwork in your favor - You may have stopped paying at some time and they started added interest? Ask for a complete account of your payments to them - check their paperwork, as soon as they send it.

From the add:
I give and recieve massages as well as a f. ull service at a rate of 250 hu.gs and kis.sses pr hr. or 150 a half. I will be open to a.n.a.l. for a tip.
I would invite her to have drink with us every Saturday lol
This could be someone else trying to get this teacher in trouble. Call her and let her explain. If you don't like what you hear, head straight for the district superintendent's office.
I thought the craigslist admins took all that stuff off. But I would report it to the principal or the district superintendent.
I would buy her services then blackmail her so my son could pass.

How would you do this

Bad debt received from P Paul

Now what would the Cash AT bank, GST Collected, Bad Debt Recovered amounts be?
I don't know where you're from or the GST %, so I'll use 7%. Let's say the sale amount was $1,000 and the GST was $70. When the debt became bad, I presume you've got back the $70 from the govt, so now when the debt was honoured, you've got to repay the govt $70.
Dr Cash $1,070
Cr Bad debt recovered $1,000
Cr GST collected $70 (this is a liability account)
Hmmm… I wonder what kind of accounting class you are in cause I have never heard of Cash AT bank or GST collected accounts. Perhaps if you were to post the entire question.

Hi everyone,

I am a professional IT manager who is looking into changing career so I don't end up like so many great IT managers that just because they are old and a younger person with less salary can do the job, they are almost out of job or have a job but got salary cut. Trust me I have seen a lot of these cases around me so I was thinking to go back to school to practice law and make good money no matter how old I get, I'd still have a good job and a good salary. now … can someone tell me which one I would make more money? Family Law ( I live in L.A by the way) or Intellectual Property?
I heard the school I choose to go to matters for the Intellectual Property practice. I can't leave L.A so what are my options?
I really need to know what is the minimum salary when I start my law career too cause I am walking away from a very good salary in IT mgmt so I need to make sure I think through this big change before doing anything. Much appreciated!
As a former Director of IT who used to make 6 figure salary in the 1990's before I just HAD to go to law school, my advice to is stop before you make the biggest financial error in your life. Please ignore the media myth that all lawyers make big money, it is a lie. The reality is that the average attorney salary is in the low 40,000.

Yes some lawyers make more — those who go right from the top tier college, to the top tier law school (Harvard, Yale), get top grades, are on law review, and are well connected (maybe mommy or daddy is in politics or has their own law firm). The rest of us, the 98%, scramble for a few 18 hour a day, 7 day a week, low pay, burn out jobs.

Do some research. Law firms are laying off right now. Many of the big firms have already announced that there will be zero hiring of new grads in 2010 and 2011. Those who graduated this year, with their $100,000 student loans, are having problems getting any job, let alone one in a law firm. The profession is full and has been since the early 1990s when I graduated. The only openings are when people burn out, or go to another profession. Plus every law school is sending out more and more people every year.

You will not make good money, even if you can get a job. Because of the glut of lawyers out there and few jobs the employers are able to pay what they want. For example it is no unusual for an employer to "take on" a legal association for zero salary - yes that is no pay — just to see how they work out. Illegal you say, well that is no problem to a group of lawyers.

Discrimination, as an IT person for years I never once encountered any age or sex discrimination. As a lawyer, especially an older female, it is rampant. It sucks to go to work and have to put up with the sexual comments, getting a lower salary than the male attorneys, and even hearing comments from the judges. It is a fight. I had one job where I was put at the reception desk to answer phones plus handle 28 active cases, while the men all got offices and were routinely assigned only 5 cases.

Finally if you want to get into intellectual property you will need to take additional courses beyond what law school provides. You will then need to sit for an additional bar exam. Intellectual property lawyers can make more money. Family law is great if you like seeing people use their kids as pawns. Family law has the highest amount of clients who report their attorneys. That is the client complains and the attorney may lose their licsence to practice law. Family law attorneys are also some of the lowest paid because the family is breaking up and no one has money.

Let me suggest that you go for an MBA in IT. Yes, I do understand about how IT is being destroyed by out sourcing, many of my clients are victims. But law is not the answer. Law is not a place to look for any financial security. I have been in this business since 1993, have my own firm, have a good reputation, usually busy, I have yet to get back to that IT salary.
