We're doing OK, but just. I need to know if there is a way to seek financial advice to pay down/off credit cards. Do these places that offer help report to the Credit Bureaus? Will going for help drop my credit score?
There is not a single organization that you can go to that will drop your credit score.

In my opinion, I think it is best to first get a copy of your credit file from all three credit bureaus. The score isn't so much important, but knowing what is on your credit file is.

Once you have your file, go over it for accuracy and if anything is incorrect, dispute that information immediately (the dispute process takes about 90 days to complete.)

Once everything is confirmed to be accurate. Decide which balance is the lowest, and develop a plan to pay that balance down first. I personally recommend paying the smallest balance first, because seeing that zero balance gives you a feeling of accomplishment and motivates you to keep moving forward in the debt elimination process. Once that debt is eliminated you can use the money that was going towards that bill to either 1) go into a savings account separate from you current bank accounts or 2) pay that amount towards other debt.

Eventually, through months of steady effort, you credit card debt will be paid down and your score will steadily improve.

Hopefully this helps. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions, comments or concerns.
To answer your question, credit card companies report to the credit bureaus, companies that help you out of debt do not. I have a lot of debt and am currently working with an excellent company. Through them I learned that there are laws that protect the consumer (and their credit scores) when it comes to credit card debt. The method they use does not hurt your credit score and I was able to stop making credit cards payments immediately. I'd never heard of this but it definitely is the best route to take. You can email me for more info if you want.
Your Credit Score will be affected if there are unpaid debts. I would advice you to take advice from a reputed debt management company, they have all the information regarding credit card debt and they also have debt negotiation service.
