We have 1 child, if that makes a difference. Thank you!
Not sure why starlight wasn't entitled to HB?? but those on low incomes CAN get help with their rent.

If I was able to go back to work and earn my usual £1000 a month (thats 12k after tax per year)then I was told by HB department that my partner who is ill, would be entitled to HB while Im at work.

Now maybe it's because he gets income support, DLA and Incapacity benefit??
I was told based on my salary that partner would get around £400 on HB and £20 per month council tax benefit, and I would make up the rest for our rent and council tax. They told me it's based on hours and earning in which we would qualify.
All I did was call the local HB dep and ask for a *rough* estimate.

There are single people and couples on low incomes who can apply for HB so it's always worth a try. If your a stay at home mother then surely you get some type of benefit or would be able to get working tax credits to help out etc??

I'd go to entitledto (google) and see what you can get or call the CAB to ask.

(oh and ignore the ignorant Fkcs who have no idea what the real world is like!)
well if its any help, my husband earns 11,240 a year , im n ot working, my son has learning difficulties and we get DLA for him ( this is not taken as income for benefit sake )
and we are not entitled to housing or council tax benefit. to be able to get it we would have to drop a further 15 hours a week, losing 96.00 in wages to gain 26.13 housing benefit and 7.55 council tax benefit.

so i would say no, you wouldnt get it
You are not forced to work as you have a kid and your hubby works. HB and CTB depends on savings you have. Under £6000 is not taken into account and £16000 over you are not entitled to HB and CTB.

Wish you best
As far as I remember it's down to savings. Call the local Council and ask. Also Citizens Advice will help you pick up everything you are qualified/entitled to.
Probably not,as £12,000 will not be classed as 'low income' for HB/CTB purposes
I would assume so 12k is not enough to live on esp w a kid u should hav no problem getting on welfare.
Why aren't you working? Having a child does not give you a free ticket to not work.
