I think there is a common misconception that doctors are rich and overpaid. Read this article I just found, and comment on it. Are these salaries lower, higher, or just about what you expected before you read it?

Ha HA I have been battling this on YA for years. All those people who think they are going to wake up and want to be doctors & get fabulous salaries. When you break it down to hourly pay (for the amount of hours you actually work for this salary) it gets really PATHETIC!!!!! Obviously we do not do it for the money, but it is very demoralizing to get paid LESS every year (as people refuse to pay their bills, or medicare reimburses less) and work longer, harder and get sued more.
Not surprising to me at all.

Becoming a doctor is not the way to become rich. You get the prestige, the ability to help people in the their times of need, the chance to work on challenge scientific problems.

Law and business offer better, and easier, avenues to wealth, particularly if you go to a top school.

The best way to become rich is to be an investment banker, or better yet a quant if you are blessed with that level of mathematical ability. Of course, you will be working insane hours.

The only thing that tops banking in long-term earnings is entrepreneurship, though requires possibly longer hours and substantially greater risk.
Wow I thought they made more money..I am wanting to go to college to be a surgeon..I think I was a little off with the amount I thought they made on average, I was over.
