Right now I'm 16, deciding on my profession. I can do any job I want, but I have narrowed it down to food chemist and chef. I like chemistry a lot, and food intrigues me scientifically, so food chemist is a great career choice. On the other hand I love cooking things, and I have a passion for food. I am willing to work hard and become a great chef. I am concerned that as a chef I won't make much money and I will regret my choice if I become one. I am so smart, I feel like I should be a doctor or something. I am told by wise people that your passion brings happiness, not a lucrative job. I'd also feel like my brains would be wasted if I became a chef. Growing up I've gotten used to luxuries, now my family's not rich, but I am very privileged. I want to keep the lifestyle I have. Becoming a food chemist or some type of engineer would supply me with much money, but I think I'd regret not following my passion.

So I see cons in both of my choices. What would you do? Can I make a good living as a chef if I get good opportunities? Also, will my intellect help me as a chef, business-wise?
Be a chemist. You aren't humble enough to succeed in the service industry. Being a successful chef requires you not only to do well in the kitchen but you have to manage the staff and interact with the customers. Trust me, they won't care how smart you are.

Drive and determination are cited as the most important attributes for any successful business owner to have - these attributes are even more important than intelligence. You have a lot of confidence in yourself - if you have half of that in drive and determination to achieve your goals you will be successful in anything you attempt.

Practice a little humility. You might be the next Einstein but no one wants to hear you talk about how smart you are. Not even your fellow chemists…
Just listen to your heart it dosent matter how much you get paid as long as its enough to make a living.
