I need help. I may need to file bankruptcy. I don't want to, but I don't feel like i have any other choice. What happens when you file bankruptcy?? I know there are 2 different kinds but I am confused about both of them. We rent our home right now, if we were to file now and wait about 2-3 years, how hard will it be to find a home? Buy a new car? I know it totally messes up your credit but I need exact details. Any information would help. Thank You
Before you file, see if you can find a local branch of an organization called Consumer Credit Counselling Services. They'll look at your financial situation and advise you - they're non-profit and reliable. If it looks like you have enough income to dig out of your situation, they'll work with you to do so, and if it looks like your only solution is bankruptcy they'll tell you that too.

The bankruptcy would stay on your credit report for 7 years, and it would be hard to get a mortgage in that time. You might be able to find a car loan a couple years later, but would pay sky-high interest.

BTW, NO COMPLAINING! At least you get to be on the internet at work. I have the pleasure of doing tedious busy work for 8 hours without the aid of the world wide web for small breaks, lunch or just to blow off some steam.
