My landlord changed a toilet unit and had to repair a part of bathroom wall due to the job back in February 2009. The landlord who is a self-employed interior decorator, fixed and put plasters on the wall himself and told me he would come back to paint the wall when the plasters got dried (dried a week later). In April he emailed me saying his self-employed job was very busy but would come to paint the wall when his job hit a slack period. I thought he could arrange another decorator to paint the wall if he could not do himself. He has had his over 2 weeks holiday in June. I have been paying full rent with the unfinished bathroom wall for 5 months. Would it be possible to claim rent reduction for these months? If so how much I should claim from £420 monthly rent? Could you please give me your advice. Thank you.
Yes, if you want to claim a rent reduction send him a recorded delivery letter, keep a copy, stating that you want a reduction and why you want a reduction.
If he does not agree you could go through the small claims court. Ask for £15 a month reduction. You might not get the money but he will soon shift his **** and complete the job!
You will be evicted if you withhold rent for this. Sometimes the answer you want is just wrong. Report Abuse
You've GOT to be kidding. You think you can claim a rent reduction because a part of your bathroom wall is not painted ??? If having that wall painted is THAT important to you, ask the landlord for the paint and do the job yourself.
NO, you cannot deduct rent over this situation.
While it is his responsibility to take care of it, can't you just paint the wall yourself? I seriously doubt you can get rent reduction, but I am in the US, don't know how things are run where you are.
You can ask but you won't receive.
I agree with the others. If it is that annoying why not just paint it over yourself?
I started a new job on 24th June and will be receiving my first wage on the 31st July.
I have 2 questions if there are any experts out there.
1. My first wage will not clear in my bank till at least 6th August which is causing me a problem with my bills, should they really be issuing the cheques sooner so the money is available by the end of July.
The wages are calculated on the 24th of each month?
2. I have also been working extra hours approx 5 extra per week but I have been told that they only pay the same rate that I earn during the day, is this allowed or are there any rules with regards to overtime.
I have not been given anything in writing or verbally about anything to do with the job as regards to hours, pay etc. Only been informed by asking.
As my husband was made redundant and having problems finding work I was lucky to find a job but feel that this company are taking advantage of their staff. Until things change then I will have to just put up with it.
1. A company can certainly pay by cheque. Whilst it is more usual for it to be by BACS these days there are still plenty of firms using cheques. As long as you receive the cheque on the pay day it is nothing to do with the company how long it takes to clear in the bank. They are under no obligation to pay you any earlier.
2. Overtime can be paid at any rate that the company decides. The only thing to make sure of is that it is the agreed rate. This should be in your terms and conditions or contract so, as the other answers have suggested, you should ask for a copy.
I wouldn't say necessarily that the company is taking advantage of the staff. Both points one and two are perfectly legal. As you say, jobs are hard to come by so it is worth putting up with and maybe you can look for something else in the meantime.
1. That's pretty much the banks policies. If they issue you a check on a local bank then you should be able to take it there and cash it and deposit the money in your account at your bank.
2. If you are in the USA and you work more than 40 hours per week they are supposed to pay overtime, which is 1.5x your pay. There may be exceptions to this however, especially if you are management.
id be surprised if your even paying an ni stamp . who is making your deductions ? sounds like black economy you have stumbled into here, do you get a pay slip ? overtime is 1 1/4 after hrs 1 1/2 sats dbl time suns..that's if the place recognise uk regulations, many don't
Sorry I can only advise on the first question.
Although the cheque would take time to clear - if paid into your account Do you know the bank and branch that have the company account. If it is local o you than take the cheque there with ID etc and ask to cash it. The bank will give you cash.
Maybe the comapny are takeing advantage - But lets hope things get better for you and your family soon.
You may want to clarify some aspects of the employment - like hours and overtime
maybe get the firts cheque paid and see how it goes for you.
You need to ask for a copy of your terms and conditions. Your employer must give you this within 2 months of your start date.
This will state whether what your contracted hours are and whether you are entitled to additional pay for working extra hours. The employer is not obliged to pay time and a half or double time.
The terms and conditions should also state when and how you are paid. There is no obligation to ensure there are cleared funds in your bank by the end of the month.
just wondering if its possible or not
If you are buying something from a sight that you don't want traced on your card, try depositing money into paypal and then paying for item on site through paypal….only charge on statement will be the deposit to paypal.
Nope it shows like every other transaction. That is why some couples have a separate account or credit card for gifts and surprises.
Not as far as I know..as soon as the transaction hits the bank it will automatically debit your account therefore creating a record of the transaction
No it is not. All charges made on the card will appear on the statement.
NO. because it doesnt matter wher or how u use the CC. every single inquiry will show on the statement.
No. All charges will be listed on your statement.
I used to have to answer a multi-line telephone in an office at my college. I was terrible at that. My phone skills weren't great, and I often had to deal with angry students because of canceled classes. My supervisor was always listening in on me and correcting me, and it made me really nervous. I hated that job. I was very paranoid about the phone ringing, at least while my supervisor was around. I did great when she wasn't around. I was often late to work because I dreaded coming in, but being late only made it worse. I quit at the end of the semester and was so relieved to be done with that job. Never again will I return to an office job.
Yeah, a year later and I'm barely getting over it. I'm applying for jobs now actually. I've realized being good at your job has more to do with the quality of the supervisor than your own abilities. A good supervisor will encourage you, and you'll feel good knowing that you're doing your best. Report Abuse
I'm not sure why you are asking the question. Are you collecting answers for a book? Or, do you have a problem at work?
One of my first jobs was doing telephone sales for a driving school. I was terrible! Didn't last a week.
I'm trying to get a job and I've decided to apply online. I'll be really honest and admit that I've never applied for a job before.
I have my resume done and ready to be sent, but they're also asking for a cover letter. I'm not sure what a cover letter is or whether it's necessary to provide one. Or if not providing one will jeopardize my chance at getting the job…
Just need a little help. Thanks
Just write the following:
To whom it may concern:
I'm writing in response to the position I saw posted on (insert webiste) as a (insert title). Please find my resume attached. I'm very interested in this position and would like to schedule an interview. Please contact me at your earliest convenience at (insert phone number).
Thank you for your time,
(Insert full name)
The purpose of a cover letter is to explain to the employer exactly why you are qualified for the job. This saves them time reading through your resume and figuring out how your experience applies to the job. Start by telling them the job you are applying for. Read the ad carefully and pick up on "buzz words." Use them in your cover letter when listing your qualifications. Don't assume that they will understand that what you did for XYZ Company is similar to what they want. Spell it out for them.
Keep the letter short (one page) and be sure to tell them you look forward to having an opportunity to interview for the position.
usually no , I've applied for many jobs online and usually have always gone for interviews 99% of the time and gotten the job too. The only exception is if they specify a cover letter or if your applying for a very high position like CEO, Bank manager, ect. something that is considered high dollar and high experience. Then they look for professionalism to the max.
I am classified as an office coordinator
and these are my duties
Be the first point of contact for visitors and clients.
Answer and redirect phones in a pleasant manner.
Maintenance of employee timesheets, rosters and personnel files.
Preparation of month reports for Head Office.
Accounts (receivables and payables.)
Typing correspondence
Book venues for social club, book airfares and accommodation for staff.
Reconcilate petty cash.
General office duties as required
So yes it is fairly similar to receptionist and Admin assistant.
Generally, if you're looking for a job and you don't know what a particular job is, it's not one you're qualified for. An office coordinator or manager is more than a reception. They basically, well, coordinate all of the office level operations, like schedules, contracts, vendors, approve payments, order supplies, keep things within a budget, etc.
As per Nils' answer, but in a nutshell, the office coordinator is the main link (coordinator) between the outside world and the seamless internal workings of your office. Multi-tasking, prioritization skills and time-management an absolute must
as coordinator you make sure the office runs smoothly and well, if people are out for the day it might be something you will have to perform for that day or get someone in to do the job
a receptionist receives people
alright..i'm using turbo tax. i already filed and received my federal back in april, but i never did my state because turbo tax was gonna charge me 30 bucks…i was planning on filing the state manually but i never got around to it. so i want to do it now. i recently realized that i can get my state for free with turbo tax if i use the freedom edition (i did my federal with the free edition). so this is where it gets tricky. turbo tax faq said i need to make a new account and do my state that way for it to be free. so i did. but of course i had to enter all my information all over again. now, i'm obviously not going to try and get my federal twice, but i had to fill the information out in order to have it for my state info. when i did this it told me i qualified for a $300 rebate that i didn't receive back in april. will i get it with my state or what? this is where i'm confused. when i filed my federal back in april turbo tax didn't offer me the rebate…and obviously my information isn't any different now…how do i go about getting my rebate?
It is very likely that you are or were qualified for the $300 Stimulus Rebate in your 2008 filing. If you did not include that in your original filing it is common for the IRS to have noticed that and adjusted your refund by the $300. So you should compare the refund you got with the paperwork for your original return. If you have not received the $300 you can amend your 2008 return to claim that refund. This has nothing to do with your state tax return. This is one of the problems commonly experienced with "free" self prepared returns. When an error is made the data is not stored in any place that is accessible. "Free" can sometimes be rather costly.
First, the money that could be requested when filing for 2008 was called a "recovery rebate credit", not a "rebate".
Second, it is not available when filing only a state return. It is available only when filing a federal return.
TurboTax may be wrong to say that you are eligible.
If you actually are eligible, then you can file a paper (manual) Form 1040X to modify your electronic federal filing to include the credit. You mail this form to the IRS and should receive the $300 eventually.
If you didn't get it in 2007 but qualified in 2008, then it was included with your refund you got this spring. The IRS double checked all returns, there were so many errors, so even if you didn't show it on your federal return you'd have gotten it. Look at your copy of your return though, it probably shows as recovery rebate credit.
The rebate was federal and has nothing to do with state.
You started on the wrong foot using TT. Many people are reclaiming the rebate even though they (like yourself) are not entitled to one. A lot of folks are going to get bills from the IRS next year to get it (plus penalty and interest) back.
Be smart, go to a professional tax preparer. You will get more money back in the long run and you won't get in trouble with the IRS.
This was the checks that were sent out in 2007. IF you got it in 2007 then you dont get it in 2008. If you did not get it in 2007 then when you submitted your 2008 the IRS was checking the info and would have automatically added it to your 2008 refund. You must not have entered the info correct the 2nd time. Turbo Tax has the rebate built into the system. It adds it into the refund. Once you enter how much you received in 2007 then it takes that much out of the refund. You most likely already got it.
I'm borrowing £1,500 on this credit card and got my first statement yesterday. I'd already paid £50 before the statement arrived (which Virgin have classed as a 'Faster Payment') and the minimum payment is £25. I've also taken out Lifestyle Protect insurance @ £11.93 on this statement. So I was quite shocked to read that, despite me paying in £50, the money transfer fee Virgin are charging on this £1,500 is £60.00, making the balance on the statement £1,521.93. I know Virgin/MBNA has to make a profit, but this £60 fee sounds way too steep to me and is the highest bank charge I've ever had to pay for anything by a long way. Mind you, I don't borrow money from credit cards very often, so I'd like to know what you think? If you think it's too much, what do you think this 'money transfer fee' should be and what do you think I should do to try and get a refund from Virgin/MBNA?
The usual transfer fees are 3% which would be £45, you seem to have been charged 4%, check the details of the offer.
Credit cards are an expensive way of borrowing money. What you really need to worry about is the APR, the annual interest rate. With credit cards, this is usually astronomical. If it is higher than 7 or 8 %, you are getting ripped off with every single repayment. When interest rates start to increase again (which will happen sooner or later), you will find your payments going through the roof.
The cheapest way to borrow money is on your mortgage. The next cheapest is from your bank.
Recently I opened a event planning business and I am wondering, how do I get paid? I have recently done a few parties and the latest one that I am working on right now the family said they only have a $700 to spend on the party, my question is how do I get paid when things like this come up? My fee is $1,500 for taking them on as a client and devoting my time to them. Do I charge them my $1,500 fee plus the $700 they want to spend on the party or what? Thanks in advance.
stay firm on your fee, if they can only afford 700 then maybe they shouldn't be hiring an event planner.
My daughter is currently living in the states, for a very famous co. the firm have internationals from many parts of the globe and they all live together on a complex and work together for this company. Her and her colleague had their bank cards stolen from their purses by another colleague. Who then proceded to spend all their hard earned wages in outlet stores near where they all live.
Its a complicated story, security on their living quaters was informed and statements took. Then the local sherif came took statements and the stores passed the girls cctv footage which proved the person who fraudently signed for goods and receipts which show card numbers belonging to them being used to pay for them.
While the girls were waiting to see what wud happen next. i.e the boy be arrested and they have some hope of getting their money back.they hear from yet another colleague that the theif in question had been terminated from his position at this famous co and was being sent home the foll day. The girls in a panic rung the sherifs office and no one wud help them because, despite them having a crime ref no, the crime hadnt been logged. they then went to their security to be told that as they had contacted the sherifs office, they could not help them.
they had no choice but they confronted boy who owned up and gave the bags back to the girls who had no choice but to take them back to the store, who then credited the money back to their other bank cards.
the whole thing sounds like a cover up to me. Why has this theif now gone back to mexico without having to face up to what he did. how come the store was able to credit the purchases back to their other bank cards. why didnt the sherif act upon the info the girls gave them and a witness from one other person who verefied the theifs name that was seen clearly on the cctv footage. it sounds corrupt to me
None of it makes much sense tbh.
I think you have a few facts missing. Either way, hes lost his job and your daughter has the money back. Isn't that the main thing?
No idea. Sounds like you have only got part of the story anyway.
Was it with an American bank? (I don't know about foreign bank policies, only American).
If American, then she need to contact the bank IMMEDIATELY. They will immediately cancel the card and ask her when she last (legitimately) used the card. They will credit back all the fraudulent charges and require her to sign an Affidavit attesting to the theft.
Here in the states, the most a credit card or bank can hold someone accountable for in fraudulent charges is $50.
If she waits to report the matter- all bets are off and she can be legal responsible for the charges!
Not sure about the US but in the UK, if there is a credit card fraud, then it is the credit card company who are the injured party, not the person whos name is on the card. If the officer knew who the offender was and failed to act without good reason (And apparantly there is plenty of evidence in this case), in the UK he would be prosecuted for "Gross misconduct in a public office"
Clearly something is amiss. Either this is not the full story or there is a level of corruption. A complaint should be made so that an official investigation can be made.
Normally stores in the UK will only refund items back onto the card that paid for them, not other cards. Don't know if this is the case in the US.
