I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings. From personal experience, and through observation of colleagues in similar employment situations, it sounds as though you are in a none-too-stable position, as well as one that makes you an easy target for exploitation.

Although ostensibly you may be the master of all you survey, being a self-contained department has two distinct disadvantages: there’s nobody to share the workload—or the blame for anything in your area that goes wrong. Despite your best intentions and constant diligence, the laws of the working universe pretty much dictate that something will go wrong, eventually. You’re only human, after all.

Presumably, there’s a chain-of-command in your company, and as gravity exerts itself from above, you’re liable to find yourself up to your neck in a lot of foul smelling detritus if you’re not careful.

Obviously, a salaried position means you have no legally-mandated limit to the number of hours you work. Hopefully, your salary is commensurate with the time and effort you’re putting in. If not, you need to ask yourself why not. Be aware also, that in companies such as the one you describe, your success will generally be measured by an increase in workload and the level of expectations placed upon you by your superiors.

The glory of an impressive title is scant compensation for the long hours and unending stress of carrying virtually limitless responsibility around on your shoulders through all your waking moments (and sleeping moments, too, if you’re on call during off-time).

What’s worse, you mention your paychecks are late. This is not good. How would your boss react if your assignments were not completed on deadline? A job is a two-way street, and you are selling precious hours of your life with the reasonable expectation that your timely completion of assigned tasks will be reciprocated by timely payment on payday. Anything less shows an unconscionable lack of respect on the part of your employer, not to mention a violation of state law.

If you have reasonable communication with your immediate boss, I suggest you have a serious talk with him or her. If you don’t lay your cards on the table, change will not occur. Bottom line: things may not get better, but if you take no action they probably will get worse.

We might not currently be experiencing the most robust job market, but remember that the cream always rises to the top. You may love the type of work you are doing, but surely there are other companies with similar job duties. And the old adage that it's usually easier to get a job when you already have one is generally accurate.

My best advice is to update your resume and leverage your current job title into a higher paying position with a company that will welcome your skills and initiative, respect the value you add to their workforce, and pay you what you’re worth—on time.
You haven't indicated what is the problem and why it is a problem.

There are lots of people who finish up managing a department of themselves - that is just the size of their department.

Why is the salary late - is this an issue?

You love your job - then stay.

As I said exactly what is it that you are asking our advice for…….
Try to earn more money by putting some workers in that job and dedicating them through proper direction. Provide them proper monetary and non-monetary facilities so that they give their best un their job. In this way, your department will also develop and your income also.
All the Best!
AND YOUR QUESTION IS?
