Hi, we (my family and I ) are going on a 16 hr driving trip to pittsburgh, we will need a hotel there, adn then we are going to newyork we will need 3 nights, on a navy lodge in staten island for $93 a night, then all the other costs, fees, and food/tolls we need tips on how we can save lots of money by august 7th please any ideas and dont just say, stop spending (DUH)
Ok………you've got a month to save……..this is what you do……

Between now and then, stay home and do not go out to eat. Its amazing how much you can make at home on a fraction of a cost you would spend at a restaurant. This applies to weekend brunches, and diners.
It seems that people overspend in restaurants especially on the weekends because its a form of "treating" themselves, and the next thing you know, you've just spent 70 dollars on diner for 2. Wayyyyyyy too expensive when you can have a great diner for two for half that amount.
Also don't order in, that's also another way to overspend on basically unhealthy food.
When you go food shopping strictly stick to your shopping list because if you don't, you'll end up with fifteen additional items "just because they were on sale". Don't do this, its a way for the stores to get you to buy basically everything else before you get to your essentials. Why do you think essentials like milk, bread, meat and water are so far into the store? Because they want you to walk past everything else before you get to your essential. By the time you get there, you've gotta cart full of things you did not want in the first place.
It is very important to go through ads and circulars for the store you shop at. This is important because you need to know what's on sale when. You don't want to miss an amazing Tide detergent sale, whereas the next week it will be its full "over" price. Its important to catch bargains when the sale is going on. Also NEVER NEVER NEVER go food shopping hungry. You'll buy things you didn't plan for and that's a perfect way to go over your budget.

Another thing is avoid malls at all costs. Its amazing how the big brother created malls as hang out places for everyone of every age, all the while you are surrounded by things to buy and overspend your money on. (Also, during this time don't go to the movies or the arcade, until you come back)
Did you ever get home with bags of stuff you really didn't need? I sure have.
Right now if I want something I usually visit Macy's or Bloomingdale's website to see what's new, if I like it, I call ahead for them to find it and hold it for me. I go to the mall with a goal in mind, pick up my items and leave.

Another thing, go food shopping you can take with you while on your road trip. Do not buy things at little gas stations, or food marts. Those places will charge you two dollars for a bottle of water or 1.50 for tiny bag of chips.
If you have a membership to a wholesale warehouse where you can buy in bulk, there you can buy plenty for a reasonable price.
If not, then make sure you go through store circulars and see what store has snacking food on sale. Because its summer, many stores have bottled water, soda, chips, fruit trays, cookies, juices, and crackers on sale. Walmart always has these items for quite cheap. Check it out.
You should also make bunch of sandwiches, keep them in your cooler especially since you'll probably use cheese and/or meat in them.
If you plan to buy food on the road, one sandwich will cost you the same amount of money you can buy a pound of cheese or lunch meat.
If there is 3 of you, imagine spending 15 dollars on three little sandwiches when you can make your own and probably make two or three sandwiches per person.
If your mom and dad drink coffee, coffee is fairly inexpensive so its no need to pack hot coffee that'll probably taste like crap by the time they'll want to drink it.

Bottom line, don't bring large amounts of money with you if you plan going to the mall between now and your trip. Bring 5 bucks for a drink. Eat at home before you go anywhere, so you're not hungry to tempt yourself to spend.

Basically, avoid all the places that will seduce you into spending. Every place right now is having incredible sales, but that's just it….these sales are going on ALL the time. So when you get back and feel like you need something, get it then…not now.

If I missed out on something I'll let you know, although I'm sure you got my idea.
Good luck and and have fun on your trip.
Don't forget sunblock (not sunscreen….sunscreen is ****).
