I plan on canceling my checking account at Capital One and opening up one at Chase. How would I transfer funds from one account to another without doing it manually?
You must go to the bank to open an account to sign the signature cards and show ID. Just write a check for the amount in Capital one ( Leave some in case some checks have not cleared) to Chase for the opening deposit. As soon as you are sure all checks and fees have cleared the Cap 1 account, write a check for the balance and put " to close account" on memo line.
Most online banking sites have a way to transfer money between accounts even if they are not with the same company. I suggest getting the second account before you close the first and then transfer the funds.
