Avast will inform you when it has updated the definitions etc, but anything else would suggest a malware infection.

First go to Start > Run and type in mrt then press Enter
Let the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool run.

Then download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
Select Full Scan.
Remove all infections that it finds after scan.

SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition:

Select Scan your Computer, select your drive and select Perform Complete Scan and remove infections

what format should i use to burn my home videos so that they will play on most dvd players? I want to send them to several relatives and they all have different brands.
This DVD Creator is a good choice. It converts popular video formats such as AVI, MPEG, WMV, DivX, DV, VOB to DVD and burn DVD movie played on portable or home DVD player. Free download here:
http://topsreviews.com/dvd-creator/dvd-creator-aimersoft.html
Unbiased reviews and side-by-side comparisons of the DVD creator give you enough information to research the ins and outs of a particular product:

Burn DVD on Mac; try this DVD burner for mac.

Also, you can search some other software:
http://www.ask.com
Here is a pretty smart dvd burner with fast speed and high output quality, it can burn any video formats to dvd, take a look and free try it urself:
http://www.avi-mp4-converter.com/dvd-creator.html
It is the best DVD burner software/DVD Movie Creator that can help you convert video to DVD and burn DVD movie to be played on portable and home DVD players. It allow you to combine your video files into video slideshows with beautiful transition effects and a customizable menu; you can also edit your video files by cropping, trimming and video effect adjusting.
There is an easy way, you should use RZ DVD Creator, i have used it, it can create standard video DVD from any videos, it can directly convert and burn any movies to DVD(DVD R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD RW, DVD-DL, DVD DL, etc), such as avi to DVD, etc.

Work well on my computer, i like it, and i believe that once you try
it, you will like it too.
Following is a step by step guide:
http://www.rzdvdcreator.com/rzavitodvdconvert/convert-video-to-dvd.html

Hope it can help you.
Well, there's no such thing as "DVD Format". You must convert your videos to ".vob" format and burn the to your DVDs. But if you have Windows Vista, you can use the "Windows DVD Maker" that automatically convert your videos and burn them to DVD.
As Samuel Adams said, you should burn it to a DVD.

DVD Flick is the best program for burning DVD's for Windows.
It's free and open source.
You should burn it as a DVD.

If you are running a MAC, Roxio Toast is a great program for burning.

Panda is the Best
If you want a free anti-virus I recommend in order of popularity, but please choose the right one for you (install only one):

1. AVG Free
a. A simple interface (easier to use than Avast! and Avira)
b. Can detect about 82.82% of viruses
Cons: low virus detection

2. Avast!
a. Real-time protection
b. It has an option to delete a virus once found
c. Can detect about 87.46% of viruses.
Cons: Too many icons and confusing user interface

3. Avira AntiVir
a. It can detect malware better than Avast and AVG
b. It's cute umbrella icon
c. Can detect about 94.26% of viruses
Cons: A very sluggish update

For free anti-spyware I would recommend Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware.
Avast scored better then AVG when it comes to detecting and deleting viruses.

Get Avast for free: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

I don't exactly know what's "good" or "average." How much do you have?
well my computer is ancient and has less than 10gb on one drive, about 20 on the other…it has two in it, but only the 10 gb is available for use. though now it's less than 1.2 so as you can imagine everything I have is stored on an external one
It depends what you're doing.

A large database of information such as the US Library of Congress has collected 82.6 terabytes (1 terabyte = 1,000 gigabytes) of data.

I would assume that "average" is somewhere around 80GB. This is more than enough for a casual computer user. Users may need more or less depending on what they do (large amounts of downloading, archiving pictures, video/sound editing, etc etc).

Personally my computer (internally) has about 150GB worth of hard drives that run at 10,000RPM (for applications and fast data writing), and then another 500GB for storage. Everything else goes on larger external arrays of several terabytes.

Basically what I'm saying is that there is no "good". I also own a laptop with only 70GB of internal space, but I've never gotten close to that limit because I only use it for certain non-data-intensive applications.
It depends on what you plan to do on your computer. I have a 500 GB Hard drive, and I play games. I have like half or so I think unused. if you plan to lose literally I mean like TONS of music. As in like 1,000 songs. Which would probably be around 3 GB, and a TON of movies. Movies tend to take more like 3 take up 10 gigabytes. And so forth you might want to think about 74.5 GB being enough. 500 GB should be plenty though. Unless you are an extreme gamer that has like 50 games. Or if you share with the rest of your family and one is a gamer, one watches movies, music, etc. That would be in my opinion below average, ok but not good. My laptop has about 80 GB and I think it sucks personally (the overall laptop.) If you are doing stuff for business like work with files, small word files that are no more than like 100 kb then it is good.
That's plenty unless you plan on downloading a bunch of videos or some other kind of very large files…

The average in new computers these days is probably closer to 100 - 200 GB, and if you end up needing more space, external HDD's are fairly cheap these days
You can always add a external hard drive to your computer if you start to run low.
i have 320gb
hard drives don't make a computer fast
the more you download the slower they get
hi that's ok
mine is a 250gb

You know when you press F4 you get a search bar,and you can quickly search through links from your previous searchs.

How do you delete that history?
Tool –> Internet Options –> Under Browsing History click Delete –> Click Delete History
Tools > Internet Options > Delete Browsing History > Delete forms.

The search history will now be gone.

Alternatively you can use CCleaner. CCleaner is free and removes all traces of your online activities.

If your not already using Firefox, I strongly recommend it. It's a much better and safer alternative to IE and you can set it up to clear the history each time you close the browser automatically.
this is easy…

first go to tools (on your browser)
internet options
content
click auto complete
uncheck everything

super easy!
