I want to learn how people make games like a simple arcade game or those facebook and myspace games. All of them are free and easy to use. Most of them are very simple.
What i want to know is what do i need to do this? What software if any do i need and what do i need to learn? Will it require a little college? I would just like to get into it for fun for now unless it turns out to pay off for me years later. To sum all of that up, i guess i could ask:
Where do i begin? All help is appreciated =]
Most of the simple games are made from scratch. I made by first game in Quick Basic (AKA QB). QB is a good program language to learn for beginners, because it teaches you how programs work. It's very easy to figure out, and you don't to take courses to master it.
The games you're playing is probably Java, Java Script, or Flash. Those languages are hard to learn.
Choose a programming language first and then learn it.
Every time I want to run a test on a folder or a file such as a .rar the results just disappear after the scan How can I see the results. Because I just cant see if there is any virus or not
it will scan a single file in the blink of an eye,
don't worry it will only alert you if it finds something depending on how you have set it up.
a better way to check files is to upload them
to virus total : http://www.virustotal.com/

avast huh? i just downloaded that yesterday and took it off about 20 mins ago but i just went into the program it looks like a media player and pick the file or disk (to the right) you want it to scan and press play or just get avg.

Hi.
I have a ASRock 775Dual-VSTA motherboard (http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=775Dual-vsta) - Im thinking of installing Windows 7… Should I install the x84 or the x64 verson? Thanks alot!
Just install the x84 or 32bit version. It should be good even if you have up to 3GB RAM.
64bit is recommended if you have at least 2GB RAM but better just consider it if you are thinking of going to have 4GB RAM. I've been using Win7 RC 64bit for about 2 weeks.
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=571215
It was a breeze to install, loaded all my drivers. It's been pretty awesome so far on one of my gaming rigs. Not a single hiccup.
64bit is only really worth it if you either have lots of RAM being used by the system that hogs the address space for your system RAM, or you perform high powered tasks such as real time 3D rendering.
would it be good for games if it utilizes all cores?
1) It would have little use. Instead use multiple CPUs.
2) Not unless you want a REALLY big chip.
For 1, you can get more power (even today) with multiple CPUs then with multiple cores. Quad core CPUs mainly are a selling point, not a technical need.
For 2 the silicon that your CPU is made of can only be scaled down so far. That is to say even if we had the technology to do so the silicon can only be made as small as the molecules can permit. So unless we have some technology to make chips out of something other then silicon, no.
You will see chips with more cores however as in theory we can make chips on 25nm scale rather then the 65nm scale today. So a 1/2 more improvement in size very close to reality. This is dependent on light, its wavelength, and how accurate we can get to. But there is a limit on how small you can get and still make structures that can carry electricity.
Not to mention the biggest reason of all is that 1 million cores would produce such a level of heat that it would fry anything near the pc, the pc itself would melt (assuming it could sustain the system long enough), but even before that… it would require a very massive generator to power it. Report Abuse
Possible, but the game would have to be written to use that many cores for it to be of any use.
Yea, I think they already cluster super computers to do that.
No.. intel has a very good track record of good long jevity but i do think that by 2030 it will seem slow in comparison to other computers on the market. It is the same thing with the Pentium 4 prosesser, it was the chip to kill all others and yes it is still good but not as good as anything els. if i were you i would wait until they come out with the Bloomfield i7 prossers with the new 32nm technology.
The i7 will won't be slow, but there will probably be more faster and better processors, whether from intel or not, that will out perform the i7.
So it depends on what is considered "slow" in 2030. However the i7 will always be a great processor and is (and probably for a while) is the fastest desktop processor.
We don't know how fast processors are in 2030. But i think i7 won't be slow for a long time.
cuz i think i can save more money
its better to stick to socket 775 for now. no need to rush upgrading to i7 or i5. wait till the DDR3 price become low and more choices for boards. 775 can still perform well in games.
just my opinion on people rushing to upgrade to i7 if you already have a very good and decent 775 setup for now.
The core i5 is supposed to come out in september, but possibly later in the year (third or fourth quarter). The core i5 2.66GHz will be priced around $196 as compared to the 920 which is currently $284 at 2.66GHz.
I am waiting for the Q4 2009 Intel releases before I go ahead with my Nehalem or Bloomfield build.
Until then, we will use our Q9450 and Q9650 boxes for "heavy lifting."
There have been a lot of reports of i7s running somewhat hot…the i5 should be cooler…and cheaper.
first of all there will be no such thing as the i5 cpu. they will always be the i7. you should wate for the new 32nm bloomfield edition i7 to come out.
No, enjoy your money.
just get a i7 920, not even a quad is fully used yet so ur i7 will last a long time.

I have a computer when i hit restart from the start menu it shuts down and restarts correctly.
But when i select shutdown it stalls on the
"Windows is Shutting Down" message
what would cause this and how do i fix it.
Thanks
I think the registry errors cause this problem. You can load the default registry values by System Restore.
Or try some professional tools. Perfect Optimizer is a good choice. The package is running pretty well on my PC.
Have a try:

It's very easy to use, just click Scan button and wait for the results, then click Repair All.
I have a spreadsheet containing all my expense report data for my weekly trips. Each week is on a separate worksheet - and each week is laid out identically. The first sheet contains an overview and has a row that corresponds to each worksheet - and the formulas in that row all contain references to the worksheet name, ie. 'May 4-7'. Each time I copy a worksheet for a new week of travel, I add a corresponding row to the first sheet - by copying a previous row, and the manually editing each formula in 12 columns to the correct worksheet name. The formula simply brings a value from the weekly worksheet to the overview sheet.
Surely, there is a simpler way of doing this. I've looked at Consolidate in the Excel help, but I don't quite see how it would work in this case. I'm not aggregating data in my formulas - at least not in these columns.
I could write a Macro in VB, but I keep thinking that there is a simpler approach that I am not thinking of.
Thanks for any ideas.
David
I think you want to use the INDIRECT function in your formulas. This allows you to "build" a formula based on the values in other cells
Say you have the Sheet name you want a formula to reference in cell A1 e.g. May 4-7. And you want to add D3 D4 from sheet May 4-7
=SUM(INDIRECT("'"&A1&"'!D3:D4"))
If you copy/drag this formula down, the next copy of this formula will sum D3 and D4 from the sheet that is named in cell A2
If you put single quotes around the sheet names e.g.
A1 has ''May 4-7'! (two single leading quotes)
…you can shorten the Indirect formula a little
=SUM(INDIRECT(A1&"D3:D4"))
.
absolute references begin with $ i.e. $b$4 keeps the reference at b4 regardless of subsequent calculations. to keep the sheet is exactly the same except the reference would be sheet[1]$b$4.
easiest way to do it is set up the reference manually and the edit the reference to insert the $ signs
Below are the requirements for Vista Home Basic which is the lowest requirement version as of now. You must understand that Vista is a hog of system resources AKA "Needs a Lot of Juice"
1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
512 MB of system memory
20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory
DVD-ROM drive
Audio Output
Internet access (fees may apply)
I would recommend sticking with windows 98se for this machine. Technically you should be able to run XP if you take out a few bells and whistles so it will run well.
Below are the XP system requirements:
233 MHz CPU *
64 MB of RAM (may limit performance and some features) *
1.5 GB of available hard disk space *
Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
CD-ROM or DVD drive
Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
Here is how to speed up your XP machine
http://www.geeknfreak.com/25ways.doc
Also install service pack 3
http://www.microsoft.com/downloadS/details.aspx?familyid=68C48DAD-BC34-40BE-8D85-6BB4F56F5110&displaylang=en
Also install Internet Explorer 8 or firefox
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html
and install direct X10 for XP
http://www.technospot.net/blogs/download-directx-10-for-windows-xp-from-alky-project/
Now you are up to date on a very old machine. Keep in mind I would recommend getting a new system and donating the old one to a school or recycling facility for a tax deductible. Hope all this helped
The pc is seriously underpowered to handle the demands of Vista.
Many believe they can convert an old pc to a new one just by upgrading the operating system. This just is not the case. In fact, newer operating systems demand more powerful machines to run the operating systems. Because underpowered machines will result in dismal to no performance, the Operating System makers will not permit you to load an Operating System onto a machine that is way too underpowered to handle it.
You need a better computer to install vista.
Windows Vista recommended system requirements:
1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
512 MB of system memory
20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory
DVD-ROM drive
Audio Output
Internet access (fees may apply)
not enough ram, not a big enough cpu not a big enough harddrive, just about everything in your computer is completely out of spec with the rquirements on the side of the box that vista came in
^
I agree. Also why in the hell would you install vista on such weak processor the computer will take half an hour to turn on and load install windows 98 on that thing or something.
It's time that you get another computer….. this is a very old computer….that you have… with very little memory and cannot be upgraded very much…it must be so slow..how do you work with it?
yeah you need at least 1300 mhz. my psp is 333 mhz, and my ipod is even more powerful. if i were you, i would but a whole new machine (computer)
YOUR COMPUTER IS ANCIENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You need at least 800mhz w/ at leats 16 gigs of space… If I were you, I'd stay with 95
because that processor is way too old and is way too slow.
If you ever do that… i will try to place my V8 motor to a volkswagen ol' beetle type … hehe
