I want to hook my laptop up to my TV but im not sure what type of cable I will need.
It depends on the TV. If the TV has component (Red, Green, Blue) inputs then you can just get a VGA to Component cable like this, http://www.amazon.com/EFORCITY-Premium-Component-Cable-3-66m/dp/B000P3Q0YW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1240848375&sr=1-2 . If the TV has s-video or composite then you want a VGA to video adaptor like this, http://www.amazon.com/EFORCITY-VGA-S-Video-RCA-Adaptor/dp/B000P3UB24 . If the TV only has RF (coaxial) in, then you might need to get that second cable plus an RF modulator like this, http://www.amazon.com/RCA-907-Stereo-RF-Modulator/dp/B001VA4CGQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1240848435&sr=1-2 or this http://www.amazon.com/RCA-CRF940-Modulator-Gold-Plated-Connectors/dp/B00008X5DD/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1240848463&sr=1-1

All of those are just examples so you can see what I'm talking about. I'm not specifically recommending those items. Those are all fine as far as I know, but you are free to search around for alternatives or better prices or whatever.
Also some laptops have an S-Video output. If your TV has S-Video in, you can get a simple S-Video cable. If it has RCA in, there are S-Video-to-RCA adapter cables. If it only has coaxial, you probably need a new TV anyway.
