I like the Monarchy - they bring tourism to the UK, work tirelessly to promote Britain and bring in jobs and can speak out against things they dont agree with. Prince Charles is doing a fantastic job in South America on climate change. He is promoting sustainability and profitability amongst some of the worlds poorest communities.

What would a president do for the UK?
I think the changes are good - although presumably that will mean that the royal family will no longer be heads of the church of England because they can't sometimes be and then sometimes not when we get a catholic? Though I don't suppose that will matter much.

Anyway - what's their point? Dunno really. I doubt we'll have a monarchy in 100 years from now. It would be a shame to see Buck Palace and Windsor Castle empty of royals somehow. It's tradition and heritage and good for tourism!!! Lucky them hey!

It isn't a system they'd devise for today - but we're stuck with it for now. Tony Blair had an opportunity to go with public feeling after the death of princess Diana and abolish the monarchy. He didn't. So….here we are for now.
They're in case Chuck Norris tries to invade Britain, send in Prince Harry. Speaking as a committed Irishman who should be committed himself i can not find any reason to have a British monarchy. Apparently they only cost each person in Britain 1p a week. Yep thats 1p a week taken from their wages whether they like it or not. I think they should have a choice, a vote on it. If a maggot was feeding on an open sore on your leg you'd swat it so why do they feel the need to give money to somebody already worth 3 billion?
To the first poster it is not just about tourism! Having a monarchy is part of British culture, our heritage!!! Being a monarchy is something that Britain has been proud to be for a long time now. The queen is our head of state, the person that I when I was a soldier swore allegiance to as well my country! And I was bloody proud to do it too!

This government, the left wing liberals and immigrants are already grinding the last remnants of our culture into the ground, they already want every vestige of Britishness destroyed and we cant let them!!! I think it is important that we keep the monarchy to show that we are still Great Britain!

Plus if we didnt have the monarchy how else would Prince Phillip get in the news and give us all a bloody good laugh every time he puts his foot in it?
there is no point to it now, as the article says it is outdated, they are still in their little world of having balls, parties, and if they got the chance, beheading each other plus abusing us peasants.

its a long history but totally abused at the expense of others, how can a law so archaic still be around, well that one really does explain a lot.

So the alternative is a president and you will come out with the crap of oh well it is better that he be elected missing the point entirely that a Sovereign with certain rights is better than a president with lots of them (Mugabe) The other thing is that if yu think it wil save you a bit of money think again it will not
So the people can have a family who.Respect family values.Show so

I have to say I like having a monarchy. It has the old fashioned romance to it and also encourages tourists and money to England. Otherwise we'd be not worth visiting - cold weather and no palaces? Nah.

I agree i dont like the monarchy. In reality they have no power.

As far as i can see it is only there to:
Put a picture on a stamp
Put pictures on money
Tourism.
